The Circle at Zurich Airport has been officially certified for its sustainability. The Circle is not only the largest Minergie-certified building in Switzerland, but also the one with the highest number of LEED Platinum points.
The corresponding certificates were presented at an event at the Circle on Monday afternoon.
Martin Kull, CEO and owner of HRS, ranked the significance of these successes in terms of sustainability from the perspective of the total contractor: "LEED is a label that maps all aspects of sustainable construction. The fact that Zurich Airport is now home to the largest LEED Platinum certified building in Europe, with a new record in terms of points, was only possible thanks to excellent cooperation and maximum commitment from all the companies involved in planning and execution. We are proud and grateful!"
Christian Appert, CEO of Amstein + Walthert, the building services planner primarily responsible, shed light on some of the aspects on which the Circle's top score is based: "The Circle stands out in terms of sustainability in a whole range of categories. In addition to an energy concept with very low primary energy consumption and CO2 emissions, the conservation of drinking water and the combination of photovoltaic modules with green roofs are worth mentioning, as is the connection with a brownfield redevelopment and the excellent transport links.
"Six months ago, Rebecca Kull and Christian Appert, CEO of Amstein + Walthert, talked about sustainability in this superlative project in our news article:
"You do something good and are rewarded for it".
