Zurich
The renovation of the historic Baur au Lac Hotel in Zurich has carefully preserved an important chapter of Swiss hotel history while adapting it to the modern standards of an international luxury hotel. The goal of the project was to preserve the hotel’s unique character and historical identity while meeting the highest standards of comfort, functionality, and guest experience.
As part of the work, the hotel lobby was comprehensively redesigned, and a new dome structure was constructed, architecturally enhancing the prestigious entrance and lounge area. In addition, the roof of the inner courtyard was redesigned and greened, creating an enhanced quality of stay and complementing the building’s historic ambiance in a contemporary manner. The implementation required a sensitive approach to the existing building fabric as well as the careful integration of modern construction techniques with elements protected as historical monuments.
Particular attention was paid to the use of high-quality materials and precise craftsmanship. Natural stone surfaces, elaborately designed stucco work, and reconstructed historical components help preserve the building’s exclusive character while creating a timeless elegance. The demanding work was planned and executed with the utmost care to meet the high-quality standards of one of Switzerland’s most renowned hotels.
HRS Real Estate AG took on the construction management mandate and coordinated the work of all project participants. Through close collaboration with the client, planners, and specialists, the renovation was successfully completed. The Baur au Lac project exemplifies how historic buildings can be preserved for the long term and further developed for future generations through careful modernization and high-quality execution.
