Hardturm site
Zurich

A future ensemble
In 2007 the last football match was played at the Hardturm stadium in Zurich. It had been the home of the Zurich Grasshoppers team since 1929, and the Hardturm site was abandoned for a long time. All attempts to build a new football stadium failed. With their "yes” vote on 25 November, Zurich's electorate paved the way for HRS' Ensemble project. In addition to the football stadium for 18,000 spectators, it will comprise a cooperative building with 174 non-profit rental apartments of the Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Zurich (ABZ) as well as two high-rise buildings with 570 rental apartments in the medium price segment and studio and commercial space. The project is a convincing overall package. Fully privately financed, exemplary neighbourhood compatibility and economically and ecologically sustainable, it is a fair and balanced compromise for neighbourhood and urban development.
Convincing urban development and sustainable financing
The Ensemble project emerged as the winner of an investor competition organised by the City of Zurich. It was unanimously selected as the winning project in the summer of 2016 by a panel of renowned experts. It convinced not only in terms of urban planning, but also because of its well thought-out financing. The three elements of football stadium, cooperative housing and residential skyscrapers are linked together as an overall package. The income generated from the high-rise buildings will finance the football stadium, the cooperative housing offers affordable living space. The entire Ensemble will be planned according to the BIM (Building Information Modelling) method and developed according to the energy requirements of the 2000-Watt Society.
