Sunshine Scenery
Uitikon
From a strip of land to a sun terrace
The community of Uitikon (ZH) is located in a large clearing on the northern foothills of the Albis mountain range. The southwest-facing hillside location and the closeness to the city of Zurich make Uitikon a popular place to live and relax close to nature. This is where HRS realised the Sunshine residential development. It extends along a previously undeveloped strip of land along the old road to the suburban community of Schlieren and offers a magnificent view of the unspoilt wooded hilly landscape and the Alps. It consists of eleven detached four-storey apartment buildings with flat roofs and attic areas.
An architect promoting energy savings
The buildings are provided with a shell of massive brickwork/concrete and plastered external thermal insulation and have different polygonal contours depending on the location of the property. The bends and edges give each building local dimensions and its own identity. The 2.5- to 5.5-room condominiums, some with two floors facing south, are characterised by room-high windows and spacious loggias. The compact building contours make a significant contribution to saving energy thanks to the high storage capacity of the concrete ceilings, the development makes optimum use of heat gains in the cold season. The energy concept includes convenient ventilation systems that can be controlled individually for each apartment, one heat pump per building and geothermal probes.
