Open, contemporary place to meet

After more than 30 years in operation, Volkiland shopping centre, opened in 1984, was completely refurbished and now shines in new splendour - with more space to linger. One of the reasons for the conversion was the desire for a larger Coop Megastore equipped with the latest technologies used for the first time in Switzerland. In addition to this extension, the interior of the building was given open, bright areas and the façade renewed.

Refurbished in stages

The complete refurbishment lasted one year in total. The first phase affected almost half of the shopping centre. By means of provisional arrangements, operation was also guaranteed during this period. The second phase will be carried out from spring 2018 to summer 2019. The reconstruction had a major impact on the supporting structure of the building. New demands and earthquake safety requirements required massive reinforcement of the supporting structure.
